The results presented show the feasibility of measuring a number of important parameters of Canadian Prairie soil by NIR spectroscopy. Even though the soil samples included various soil types and horizons, good to moderately good calibrations were developed using NIR spectroscopy for %C, %N, %clay, CEC, Ca and Mg. Use of NIR spectroscopy in soil science promises to improve the rapidity and cost-effectiveness of sample analysis.
